Couples Therapy

“When you pick a partner, you pick a story. So what kind of story are you going to write?” - Esther Perel

Couples therapy provides a safe and non-judgemental environment in which you can more openly share your concerns about your relationship with your partner helping you to improve your communication and to better understand your partner. Many couples find that having the support of a therapist who provides structure and care as they address their concerns can be a good way to sort things out and lead to being able to enjoy a deeper relationship as they look ahead.

Some couples attend therapy at a time of extreme distress, complexity and conflicting emotions. Others want to use sessions to address and manage issues which are currently less acute but significant in the context of their relationship and lifestyle. Communication, difference, meeting partner’s needs, conflict, dealing with affairs are often the types of issues explored in therapy with couples.

What you can expect

I have attended a two year advanced couples training approved by the College of Sex and Relationship Therapists and have been working with relationships of all kinds since 2017.

Through couples therapy sessions you are likely to learn some new ways of communicating with each other, discover more about yourself and each other, rebuild your trust and commitment to each other, and hopefully provide new energy to restore your relationship. I will work with you to create a vision of how you would like your relationship to be and will help you to communicate and listen more effectively, helping you both to reflect on what has led to the issues in your relationship.

A safe and respectful space is created to help you to understand each other better, sometimes communication exercises are suggested to build trust and honesty in an atmosphere of acceptance, encouraging you both to explore ways of meeting each other’s needs in a way that honours your relationship.

Sessions are generally on a weekly basis to start with, which may reduce to fortnightly or monthly as appropriate. The fee is £85 for a couples session of 60 minutes duration.

All couples are welcome, regardless of gender, sexuality, age or length of relationship.
